As a real estate agent, I love exploring local gems that contribute to the vibrancy of our community. One such place is Synergy MedAesthetics in Yakima, WA, where expertise meets artistry to provide clients with high-quality treatments without having to travel to a big city. While Synergy MedAesthetics is located in Yakima, I believe it’s worth showcasing for its exceptional services and expertise! I had the pleasure of sitting down with Gretchen Thorner, one of the clinic's top injectors, to talk about her journey, her passion for aesthetics, and what makes her approach unique.
Born and raised in Yakima, Gretchen always knew she wanted a career in medicine. After graduating from West Valley, she pursued a degree in Biology at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA, followed by a Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies in Las Vegas, NV. But her journey didn’t stop there. She and her husband, also a Yakima native, spent 12 years away before returning to the valley to raise their three young children in a community that values kindness, collaboration, and responsibility.
“I want my child to grow up in a place where they can see firsthand the positive impact of helping others,” she shared. This deep-rooted passion for community is reflected in her work every day.
Initially, Gretchen envisioned a career in pediatrics after spending time volunteering at children’s hospitals and loving every moment of caring for young patients. However, life had other plans. Her first job as a Physician Assistant was in trauma surgery but after receiving her own skin cancer diagnosis, she transitioned to dermatology and eventually medical aesthetics. Despite the challenges she faced, her experience has inspired her work. Over the past 15 years, she has seen the field evolve with smarter products, better injectables, and more effective lasers. “It’s really an exciting field,” she said. “We know so much more now, and the advancements continue to improve outcomes for patients.”.
Undoubtedly, Gretchen’s experience in New York played a huge role in shaping her skills and approach to aesthetics. Working in one of the meccas of the aesthetic industry exposed her to cutting-edge techniques and a diverse range of patients.
“When I returned to Yakima, I was surprised to see that so many people felt they needed to drive to a big city, like Seattle, to receive quality treatments,” she explained. “That realization really motivated me to continue learning and growing so I could bring top-level results to Central Washington.”.
When asked about her favorite treatments to perform, it was clear that she has a deep appreciation for the artistry of aesthetics.
“Dermal fillers, Botox, CO2 lasers, and PRF are all incredible treatments,” she said. “Each offers something unique—whether it’s restoring volume and facial balance, softening wrinkles, improving skin texture, or rejuvenating the skin from within.”
Her approach is always tailored to the individual, ensuring results that enhance rather than alter a person’s natural beauty.
One of the biggest misconceptions? That being an injector is an easy job.
“It takes a high level of skill, precision, and knowledge,” she emphasized. “It’s not just about picking up a needle; it’s about understanding anatomy, managing patient expectations, and ensuring safety.”
Nevertheless, her role is more than just reducing wrinkles—it’s about confidence, self-care, and transformation.
Gretchen has countless success stories, but one that stands out involves a young woman in recovery from drug addiction.
“She had been sober for just over a year, working two jobs, and trying to regain custody of her children,” she recalled. “She hated looking in the mirror because of the scars left from years of drug use.”
As a result, dermal fillers and laser resurfacing transformed her skin and, more importantly, her confidence.
“She went from feeling weak and worthless to resilient and capable,” she shared. “Eventually, she regained custody of her children. I’ll never forget her story.”
For anyone considering injectables, Gretchen offers simple yet essential advice:
Integrity. Transparency. Education.
“I believe in always putting my clients’ best interests first—even if that means saying ‘no’ to a procedure that isn’t right for them,” she said. “I want my patients to be fully informed and confident in their decisions.”
Above all, her approach focuses on facial balancing and holistic rejuvenation, ensuring natural-looking results that enhance rather than overcorrect.
“Not wearing sunscreen and not washing off makeup before bed!” she said without hesitation. Simple steps like these can make a massive difference in maintaining youthful, healthy skin.
While the industry is constantly changing and evolving, so is she. Gretchen is particularly excited about a new injectable that combines hyaluronic acid with a biostimulator in one syringe. Innovations like these continue to refine the industry, offering patients better, longer-lasting results.
Her must-haves?
“You’re unapologetically worth it—never let anyone make you feel otherwise.”
Gretchen is currently participating in an elite two-year mentorship with world-renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Mauricio DeMaio.
“This is an incredible honor, and I’m excited to learn from one of the best in the field,” she said.
She’s also passionate about setting national standards for aesthetic injectors, ensuring better and safer outcomes for patients.
Whether you’re considering your first injectable treatment or simply looking for expert skincare advice, finding a provider who values education, integrity, and natural results is key. With years of experience, a passion for helping others, and a dedication to continued learning, Gretchen Thorner is bringing the best of the aesthetic world to Central Washington—no big-city trip required.
